81st Conference for Community Arts Education

Building Radical Solidarity Towards Liberation:
A Pre-conference for Community Arts Educators and Administrators of Color

Solidarity has a critical role in advancing racial justice, and grounding the work of people of color as liberation leaders. We also know that arts and culture are powerful tools for addressing our most pressing challenges. For real change to manifest in our lives, communities, and organizations we must understand structures of racism, and examine the ways in which anti-Blackness undermines our efforts. In this session, we will:

  •   Explore intersectionality as a source of strength

  •   Restore practices that build trust, safety and promote healing

  •   Establish systems of support, accountability, and transparency

  •   Decolonize our approaches to organizational processes

  •   Apply creative and trauma informed principles to cultivate liberatory practices

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how racism and intersecting oppressions play out in their organizations, ultimately causing harm and negatively impacting staff and communities. We will work towards a shared vision for racial justice rooted in the collective power and agency we have to dismantle systems of oppression, and imagine new approaches for the ways we organize.
